Fly tape and oranges

We should be bowling right now, but Beto is sleeping. I look over at his peaceful face tonight and feel like everything is right with the world.

Beto and I had received a movie via NetFlix some time ago.  We have been meaning to watch it, to finish it.  The problem is that ten minutes into the movie Beto goes right to sleep.  We have tried to watch it before. This particular movie with subtitles moves a little slow perhaps.  Set in the hills of Italy, it inches along without drama, violence, graphic scenes or mystery.  It is simply the story of a boy who loves oranges and wants little more than a piece of land to call his own. In the end, the girl sings, he gets his land and all is well.

Truth be told, I am a little tired as well.  Aside from being at work all day, I came home and helped to clean the house, the back patio and yard specifically. I picked off old flower buds, I weeded, I sprayed the dirt off of the patio and watered the flowers. We had a good laugh as I finished and Beto came out to take a look at how clean and tidy the outdoor space had become. He came out and suspended long strips of unatractive fly tape to hanging objects such as the lighting fixture.  The brown, sticky strands blew in the wind, waiting to get stuck in someone's hair.  We have had several flies in the backyard, and today, he was eager to see how many flies he could put out of commission. We laughed because I made the comment that he had, within a few minutes,  detracted from the hours of work I had just done to make the backyard look nice.  I was, kidding but it was funny and somewhat true.
