New York!

Beto and I had a great time in New York; I had the chance to take some pictures, we ate at a Scandinavian Café in Midtown called Smorgas http://www.smorgaschef.com/, we went to Central Park. We decided to stay an extra day and on Tuesday, we spent some time in the Brooklyn/DUMBO area. There, we visited the old church next to the site of where the World Trade Towers once stood; we visited the Mike Blabac Skateboarding Photography gallery and bookstore. http://www.radcollector.com/news/2009/07/01/mike-blabac-x-dc-x-powerhouse-release-party-recap/
We walked across the Brooklyn Bridge. We had a drink under the Brooklyn Bridge at the Water Street Restaurant. http://www.waterstreetrestaurant.com/
We were surprised at the large, (but friendly) police presence in the city. To me New York seems to be a safe place than Philadelphia. The parts we visited seems cleaner than downtown Philadelphia. There were hardly any homeless people on the streets and at no point were we approached by pan handlers. Working in downtown Philadelphia, I had become accustom to aggressive panhandling being a daily occurrence. Although the time on the meter had expired, we were not ticketed, when we returned and put more change in the meter without moving the car, we were not ticketed. All in all, the experience was great, I always seem to return from the city a little more inspired with a fresh outlook on life.
On the return home, I slept while Beto drove. He never seems to mind this and in fact encourages it which I find so sweet. He made it back just in time for him to get to his softball game which started at eight. I rode my bike down to the field later on to catch the end of the game. Beto was all skinned up, bleeding and bruised; he had made a sliding dive in the last inning.

Kitten Dreams!

Knowing my love of cats, Beto ordered me a skateboard that is right up my ally! It's an Enjoi Jerry Hsu Kitten Dreams Deck.  Beto also ordered pink grip tape for it.  He is the BEST!

Fly tape and oranges

We should be bowling right now, but Beto is sleeping. I look over at his peaceful face tonight and feel like everything is right with the world.

Beto and I had received a movie via NetFlix some time ago.  We have been meaning to watch it, to finish it.  The problem is that ten minutes into the movie Beto goes right to sleep.  We have tried to watch it before. This particular movie with subtitles moves a little slow perhaps.  Set in the hills of Italy, it inches along without drama, violence, graphic scenes or mystery.  It is simply the story of a boy who loves oranges and wants little more than a piece of land to call his own. In the end, the girl sings, he gets his land and all is well.

Truth be told, I am a little tired as well.  Aside from being at work all day, I came home and helped to clean the house, the back patio and yard specifically. I picked off old flower buds, I weeded, I sprayed the dirt off of the patio and watered the flowers. We had a good laugh as I finished and Beto came out to take a look at how clean and tidy the outdoor space had become. He came out and suspended long strips of unatractive fly tape to hanging objects such as the lighting fixture.  The brown, sticky strands blew in the wind, waiting to get stuck in someone's hair.  We have had several flies in the backyard, and today, he was eager to see how many flies he could put out of commission. We laughed because I made the comment that he had, within a few minutes,  detracted from the hours of work I had just done to make the backyard look nice.  I was, kidding but it was funny and somewhat true.

Monday

It's Monday and after a long weekend of outdoor fun, I am back in the office.

Beto has created a new website.  It showcases a nice collection of his illustration/design/informational graphics  work done over the years.

I have created a website as well for my photography.  I am still building my collection of photos, but it is a good start for me.

Ladybugs

We rode to Greens Grow.  Although I hoped to see the garden cat who gives the tours, he/she was elusive.  We did however purchase raspberries, blueberries, fresh-baked sprouted whole grain bread, two peaches and a container of ladybugs.  Although we could always use more ladybugs in the garden, it seemed like more of a rescue mission as the poor things craweled around in a container that appeared to have no air wholes.  I love Green's Grow.
